Northern Offshore
Northern Offshore was awarded several new contracts for their drilling rig fleet and engaged IAS International to design,
develop and implement a new training, development, and competence infrastructure to support their drilling operations.
This project scope included the design and development of:
- A new Accelerated Development Program (ADP)
- A bespoke Competence Management System (CMS) including a Competence Assessment Program (CAP) for every rig
position - New operations & well control manuals
- New Hire Assessment Program
- Operational Readiness Assessment Program
- New, Training, Development and Competence Matrix
- Management of their CMS and CAPs
In addition to designing their infrastructure IAS International was also contracted to conduct the rig activations. The
project was designed to incorporate 3 distinct stages to ensure the greatest possibility of achieving operational excellence
right from the outset.
Stage one was the New Hire Assessment involving technical and practical assessments utilising simulation technology.
Candidates were recommended for hire based on the combined assessment result with a report provided to Northern Offshore identifying areas for improvement which could be addressed during stage two for successful candidates.
Stage two involved preparing the crews whilst the rigs were in the shipyard, using rig equipment and simulators to deliver one-to-one coaching to improve their capabilities after they had been assessed against the CAP for their position, meaning that they had begun their “route to competence” prior to the commencement of operations.
Stage three involved the IAS International SMEs conducting independent assessments on the rig’s equipment and procedures whilst still in the shipyard.
